Keep it at bay

Maine, May 2016

Put on protection.
Go ahead. I don’t mind.
We’ll wander in the forest
a bit longer.

Clouds in the valley
riding high
no reason why
I should feel this way.

I stave it off
drowning us
in another house,
covered by water.

Is there a reason
I keep it at bay?
I’ve done so well
to keep us together.
