American Barns (Heritage)

Summer fields, ripening corn
grandma in the kitchen
johnny in the barn
chasing cows from pasture
kittens nice and warm

barn wood rubbing smooth
rock structures crumbling
wagon wheels bumping
down the gravel road forlorn
windows to stories untold

goats are really silly
pigs stubborn as mules
chicken laying eggs
jenny feeding horses
dreaming of leaving for the city

America’s heritage is rising
in the skyscrapers to nowhere
who can hear the men
so faraway from the land
picking corn not easy

  1. Beautiful, a sad story that takes mankind away from nature into the confinement of skyscapers. It’s true all over the world. We can’t survive on skyscapers, we need nature and her gifts. 🙂
