Week in Review: B&W

silent nights
voided days
the human pulse fades away
lying still in slumber bed
daddy finds his boyish head
asleep on pillows fluffed at noon
now compressed by hallow dread.

running home
workday done
daddy falls on bended knee
to watch his son being fed
opiates, a final call
police and dealers, absent lovers too
all relinquish his human goo.

silent nights
voided days
daddy wanders crumbled earth
releases anger, bottled grief
showers only begotten
witness life is simply rotten.

Rest in peace Adam, 21, aspiring chef and accountant.

    1. So true Jay… We shouldnt suppress the mental anguish. I got word a couple weeks ago and shared with a few trusted friends. We leave Wednesday to visit his parents, say goodbye to Adam. He was quiet, shy, and a gentle young man. He was my nephew.

This morning i quickly penned a few words to try and bring meaning to a situation i want desperately to avoid. I dont do well at funerals.

The addiction started mid-April. First time doing drugs. My hunch is Covid brought him misery… the drugs a release. Went to rehab for a month in the summer. Turned 21 in August. Was living with his dad in September and October was too much to face.

Just another painful moment to etch away at what little hope i have left. At least for the moment, sorrow has begun to engulf me yet again. Two steps forward and three trips back… πŸ’”
