Antheraea polyphemus

I decided to post the picture alone, without the words, if you do not want to bother reading my embarrassing words. The Antheraea polyphemus is also a member of the silkworm family of moths in the United States. “The eye spots give it its name – from the Greek myth of the Cyclops Polyphemus.” (Wikipedia.)  Their color pattern varies from a reddish-cinnamon to a shade of brown as seen in the picture. This most likely is a male since his antennae are bushy. The wingspan is 6 inches. Photo shot in Spring 2011.
